IMPORTANT! - Please read our disclaimer about the following information!

The Rose Valley Reservoir trails is a mapped trail and trail maps can be bought at most local bike stores. This map outlines a shorter loop than the classic one that circles the resevoir. This trail stays entirely on the East side of the resevoir. For details on the long loop, visit the Rose Valley Lake Loop - Long map.

The trail starts in a small parking lot with a beautiful mostly single track climb along the East ridge surrounding Rose Valley Lake. Most of the climbing is found in the first 3 KM.

Trail Head to Junction 1: This section is single track up to a two track road. Once you hit the road take a quick right and then watch for a single track trail immediately to your right, it isn't more than 10 meters along the road.

Junction 1 to Junction 2: This section is all single track and has some off camber sections. Right before Juntion 2 there is a steep section for not more than 30 meters.

Junction 2 to Junction 3: Some people continue straight were you will end up on a two track road. If you decide to go straight, make sure you turn left onto the road. The suggested route is to take a sharp left and continue on the single track section. You will commense descending at one point but make sure you watch for a turn to your right onto another a two track section. Follow the two track sections to Junction 3 which will be another two track road. Once you reach this junction turn left and continue down the road.

Junction 3 to Junction 4: All two track road. Watch for a single track trail to the left, you should see a white arrow on a tree pointing left.

Junction 4 to Junction 5: All single track. You will see another junction, continue going straight.

Junction 5 to Junction 6: Continue on the single track section and watch for a trail that heads to the right. The trail will take you to the ridge where you start the last big climb. The views are spectacular from here, take a break when you reach the top! Once you reach the top of the ridge you will come to a burned section where you turn left and come back along the lower west side of the ridge. Along this section you have great views of the lake and McDougall Rim. You will loop back to the Junction 6, then back to Junction 5. This time turn left at Junction 5.

Junction 5 (Back) to Junction 7: You will love this section. All single track with some very flowy lines and slightly technical sections. You will eventually get back to the resevoir road where you can do one of two things. If you stay above the road you can ride the "berm" out most of the way. This will take you to Rosalee Lane. If you're tired you can descend to the road and continue south back to Rosewood Drive in Rose Valley. Follow the road back to Westlake Road, then back to the trailhead.

Junction 7 to Trail head: If you follow the berm back to Rosealle Lane, if you take a left you can enter a new subdivision section and get back to the trail head on mostly trails instead of the road. Refer to the map for the trail, you can end up back on the section between the trail head and junction 1.
